On May 7, Madison International Speedway was the site of the Joe Shear Classic. After qualifying third Ty began the 100 lap feature in the 8th position due to an invert. Before the halfway point, Ty made an impressive pass to take the lead. After a mandatory pit stop, he started 13th with 108 to go. The pit strategy played into the 91 iRacing Ford struggling to maintain track position and was running p10 with 47 to go. A caution came out and the team serviced the car with 43 to go. He was p5 with 10 to go and a single file restart. After digging deep, Ty came away with a hard fought finish for third when the checkered flag dropped.
As Ty continues to have strong finishes, he confirms and builds his status as one of the top short track competitors nation wide. On May 13, the team raced the track they consider their “home track.” La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway never disappoints with exciting racing action. Ty qualified in the second position, started the fast dash fifth and finished in second. He stated “I feel like we have a pretty good piece tonight but there is some stout competition here.” He started the feature in the middle of the pack and began his journey to the front of the pack immediately. Ty finished the 25 lap feature taking home the win at the season opener at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
Ty was looking forward to the next event on his busy roster. On May 16 and 17, the Roush Fenway team along with Ty tested the Xfinity car at Iowa Speedway for the first time. It was two days of learning as well as Ty having the opportunity to gain confidence in the team and use his abilities to communicate vital information for improvements as the test wore on. The team and the driver were all extremely satisfied with the test. They are all very much looking forward to Ty’s first start in the Xfinity Series on June 24.
The ARCA Midwest Tour presented the Cabin Fever 100 on May 21. After a rain out on May 20, The drivers were collectively geared up to get the race in. Ty qualified p2 and started the feature p12. After several cautions, Ty found himself taking the 91 iRacing Ken’s Sports LeJeune Bolt, Black Diamond car to the front of the pack. With less than half the race to go, Ty maintained the lead until the checkered flag dropped. It was the third year in a row that Ty took home the Cabin Fever 100 win at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI
